Why wont my outboard motor keep running.It is a merc blueband with a dizzy that may have copped a power surge.

Question:
The motor ran perfectly until I made the error of switching to the second battery which caused immediate failure.Upon switching back it would fire but not continue to run on.The switchbox has been replaced since but it still does the same thing.The coil is OK but the damage may have been to the dizzy?? Please help
