I'm dying to sail and travel... I love the ocean... I love sailboats, I love the world, pix, people, languages, culture.. I'm looking for links, emails, ideas. Anything that could help me. As of now, I know I can either sail around the world buying and paying for my own ship, or getting paid to man some one else's ship. The first is out of the question because I don't have the money for that...And about the second, I don't know where to go to find people hiring or looking for sailers. So... Thanks in advance! I hope some one can help me out.

The thing is to get experience. Someone crewing up an ocean crossing is not going to take on a rookie. Go to the local marina, sailing club, etc. and put some tear-offs on the bulletin board. Offer to crew for club racers, etc. It is a blast, and free experience. Then you can get some skills and do some networking to get on some longer trips. Then you just go from there.You might want to read "Tinkerbelle" by Robert Manry. Lots of info when you Google it.

Get all the sea time you can on any boat you can. What you want to do takes someone that is considered "salty" with a fair amount of experience. Learn everything you can about boats and boating. Where there is a will, there is a way! I just helped sail a 52 footer from St.Thomas in the USVI to Cape Fear NC last August. 10 solid days of 24 hr sailing to cover 1650nm. By far the most incredible thing I've ever done. Not a day passes that I don't think about it and I'm so thankful that I had the once in a lifetime opportunity.
