What salvage right do i have on a sunken boats on canals?
Typically you plug the bottom (drain) only when the boat is moving... otherwise it creates a vaccum and sucks all of the water out of your livewell when you take off. I've seen some boats with a simple shut off valve to prevent this if the plumbing is accessible... if not use a plug. If you aren't moving you can leave the plug out and it allows fresh water circulation through the livewell. Even with the plug out and the pump off the livewell should back fill through the drain to a level equal to that of the water level outside of the boat. When you switch on the livewell it should start pumping water into it, it just helps to add air to the water by breaking the water surface and it keeps fresh water flowing through the livewell. If it's not pumping you have a problem, check the fuse first... and the switch, and then the pump. The pump is typically mounted at the base of the transom (rear) next to where your drain plug is. You'll have a bilge pump on one side and your livewell pump on the other, it will be the one that is plumbed to pull the water in through a hole there at the base of the transom. The bilge should have an outlet up higher, and is run off of a float switch or a switch on the dash. It's probably a good idea to make sure both pumps are working...Suggest Price for 1972 - 19' 8" SeaRay in/outboard B Cat powered by a 200 HP Mtr Need to sell?

Wow it amazes me how technology has passed me by. Live Wells have been around longer than outboard motors. (Thereby also meaning before a pump was available.)What is the fuel mix raio on a 4.5 hp evenrude ?
They would have at least two holes and did require plugging when underway with propulsion, to prevent suction draining as did the transom baling holes. We kept bait shrimp alive for days with this basic system.

I believe the theory would be if you are at rest two holes would allow dead water to escape while fresh water would enter assisted by movement of the water.

I would chunk the pump and make another hole with a suitable locking plug to be installed when you're in motion.
