Battery ground wires have melted in the housing of my trolling motor on my boat. Please see details...?

Question:
The ground is coming from negative terminal on the battery and into the trolling motor housing to a terminal where it connects to a black wire coming from the motor itself, and a black wire coming from a small light bulb. All three wires have melted at the terminal where they are connected. There is no indication that any of these wires have made contact with a positive wire in the area of the damage. I never had any problems with this trolling motor before. It is seven years old. I can't understand what would cause the wires to melt all of a sudden, especially in the area that they are located.

Answers:

How do you hook up 24 volt batterie wires?

you have a bad ground connection, ALL OF THEM. clean all connections

Why do you drive on the right side of all boats?

In any engine, melted ground wires signal poor connection or high current draw. Check the starter for excessive current draw and be sure all grounds are clean and tight. ( after fixing the melted wiring , of course )
