1966 sportwin evinrude 9.5hp outboard motor how do i tell if waterpump is bad?

Question:
how do i tell if water pump is bad and how much water should come out of exhaust, my dad has not worked on outboards for awhile and need some answers please help? engine starts right up on first pull, not sure if test tank had enough water was past fill line but not by much.

Why won't it start?

Like "GULF" Said, it's best to replace the whole pump, impellers get brittle, you may also inspect it but, you already now have it off, might as well replace it, The "Water Pump" is the weakest link on an outboard, if it starts and runs (at all rpm's) it's working. You used to be able to buy two "Temperature"pencils at the outboard shop (I think you still can), You put a pencil mark from ea. pencil on the "Head", if one disappears, and the other stays, the motor is at operating temp. and cooling properly, if both marks disappear, the engine head is running "TOO HOT" !

How would i dock a boat to a sea wall?

Age can be a factor...If the waterpump impeller had had a chance to dry it could get brittle with age. The tips of the impeller wear.
If the impeller has not been replaced in a couple of years, I would replace it before this summer.
It could save a lot of heartache and money to be cautious.

Why there is a need of maritime communication?

Water should come out of exhaust port on back of lower unit like a water hose turned on medium to high. It will spit out with the exhaust. It will look like you are putting your finger over a water hose turned on medium to high in other words. It will be intermitant too because of the engine stroke/gases mixing with the water. Water/exhaust will come out near top of lower unit. This is all at idle speed of course.

Has anyone got RECENT info on Sao Vicente in the Cape Verde Islands?

Or you could just take apart the lower unit and change the impeller. Of course you will need new gaskets to put it back together.
