15 to 20 hp would be better as 10 hp is a better engine for small boats for fishing
The ship is sinking and I haven't finished my vodka yet. What do I do?
as long as you're not in a great hurry, a 9.9 will do fine. not to mention a little less $$. be sure to get the right length motor for the transom. How fast do you want to go, and is your boat a planing hull or displacement. If planing, and you wish to take advantage of that, then you will probably need at least 25 to 40 hp. (I have an 80 hp on my 17' hull), which will allow me to operate between 20 and 35 mph. However if you would be satisfied with displacement speeds, 6 to 12 mph then you may be able to use a 9 hp to 15 hp motor. It would all depend upon the use. Many lakes have restrictions to motors of less than 10 hp, and again you will have to decide where and how you plan to use your boat. Obviously a lower horsepower engine will be more fuel efficient, as well as less costly to purchase. Good luck.
what are the advantages and disadvantages of a dugout boat?
Honestly, you need to not worry too much as most all 15 footers can handle any one of the motors that you have heard others talking about. There should be a plate on the inside of your boat somewhere that would tell you what the MAX is. I have a 15 1/2 footer and it can handle a 85hp.More Questions & Answers ...
