I have a question about getting a jon boat registered.?

the boat doesnt have a hull id number, the plate is broke off and i am not sure how to go about registering it. Several people have told me that i can just use the numbers off of another boat that hasnt been registered but i dont know. Any suggestions?

Just go down with the boat, and apply for a new hull I.D. number. If they ever check the registration and your missing the number--they may ticket or impound the boat. If they found that you falsified documentation---you really are going to wish you just called the DMV and arranged for an inspection and new applied for a Hull I.D.

You can try registering it as a homemade . Do you have paperwork on it ever being registered? Take that in with a picture of the plate. Do not take a number from another boat The DMV canassign you a number with the measurements and proof of ownership.

As long as you know the boat is not stolen, you can go to the DNR or DMV (don't know which handles boats in your state) and explain the situation. They will issue a new ID number. Usually it will be a sticker. The main thing is that it will be logged into their records. This will allow you to sell the boat sometime in the future without the prospective buyer thinking he is buying a stolen boat.
