Boater gift?

Question:
Next week is my love's 57th birthday - the first I've ever spent with him as we met last year the week after his birthday. He adores his little sailboat - a Capri 18 - and has made some nice improvements in it thus far with cabinets, a little chart table, a tiny galley, speakers, sail covers, etc.

How can I make a homemade pitching aid?

I'd really like to get him something nice for the boat, but I don't know what. Sails are a little too expensive for me right now, but maybe a 150% genoa, if I could get one quickly. But where would I find one the right size and before April 5th?

If you bought a new ski boat but it needed a paint job, what color would you paint it?

Are there any other sailors out there with a good idea? He needs another anchor too - and line, but what kind and how much? We sail on a large lake here in Dallas, but are looking forward to going blue water this summer. Still need an stove set-up and a porta-potty (not THAT for his birthday though).

How do I remove fiberglass from Aluminum boat?

I want his 57th to be very special as I love him dearly. Any ideas for the gift or anything else would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone made a boat out of cheap plywood not designed for saltwater marine use?

Forget the gift certificates.
It's a birthday present from his love, right?
So, forget the gift certificates. Totally inappropriate.
Forget the spam too, someone trying to sell an ebay item to you? Don't even consider it. The vessel is only 18 feet long after all. A binacle would fill the cockpit.
He should think of you every time he sees your gift or passes it or comes to use it. That is what a gift is all about.
Binoculars is an excellent choice.
So is a rigging set, a leather pouch that fits on a belt and holds some small but essential tools.
A couple of other suggestions:-
A hand held compass.
A good pair of dividers and breton plotter.
Anything to do with safety is poignant, life jacket, jack stays, personal harness, heliograph or pen flares.
An anchor is good, but I need to know more about your sailing area before recommending a type for you. Different types do different things and have different advantages.
Please feel free to email me if you would like to know which anchor type for your sea area.
I am quite concerned about your comment regarding going bluewater sailing, an 18ft boat is definately not suitable for bluewater sailing. Perhaps you may not actually know what bluewater sailing is and are just using a term you have heard?

How much does black trimmed armour cost?

Why not get him a gift certificate to a marine supply store like West marine or Boaters World. That way he can get exactly what he needs and you made it possible. If he is like me he wants to pick out what he wants for the boat!

Why are the lights on the front of a boat different colors and which side is which color?

One of the best gifts I ever received for my boat was very simple. A pair of good binoculars. Never even thought of them myself, and used them every time we went out on the ocean. My $.02 worth

Where to buy pontoons?

Why not a binnacle? I have a picture of a brass binnacle that is on the Yahoo auction right now. Ship captains in the old world of sailing, had a superstition that it brought the ship bad luck if the binnacle were taken off the ship and/or away from the helm. In my opinion, anyone can get a gift certificate or anchor, but a binnacle such as the one I pointed out would be a very memorable and long lasting gift.

A gift certificate for a really good life vest, that way he can pick out which one he likes best, and WILL WEAR IT !

What is the name for a table on a boat that doesn't rock with the waves?

It's the most important piece of equipt. on a boat, I don't care what anyone else say's ! A "strobe light" attachment is also recommended, and a whistle too.

What would be a good hp motor for this boat?

Gift certificate to wherever he buys his stuff. Maybe not for West Marine cause a lot of people, like myself, are pretty annoyed with their prices. Not to say that I don't shop there, I just try not to.
