I'm 16 and I want to buy a boat that I can use for waterskiing. What kind of boat should I get that won't cost say.. over $5500 used should i get? Where can I look for one? and is it better to just wait until you have the money to buy a new one?

Boats can be fun, but you know what they say? The two happiest times of a boater's life is the day he buys it and the day he sells it. And boat is an acronym for Bust Out Another Thousand. If you aren't good with boat/engine repair, don't have a place to store it, aren't anal retentive about cleaning after each use, I would seriously consider NOT buying one.Even with the having all the listed experience above, you will constantly repair and replace parts and equipment. Not to mention they aren't very gas efficient.

When my buddy gets geady to pull out of the marina in his late model 28' searay sunrider he says... "The seats are leather; if you burn/rip them you buy them. Ok who's throwing in for gas" (his tank holds $300) Not to mention getting pulled out of the water by that boat is like throwing a grappling hook onto a speeding freight train, you may as well have someone hit you in the shoulder with a baseball bat.
When I launch my boat from the free ramp,(yes I can store it at home and easily tow it to any body of water I choose) I say to my passengers... "Remember saftey first, the vests are there, and don't worry about dirt / scraches / capsizing / etc...as long as nobody dies we'll have fun."

Just about any boat you can water ski with. My first power boat was an older 17' Wellcraft bow rider. With a 140 cid 4 cyl engine. I paid 1500 bucks and a couple minor repairs. It seems you have enough cash to buy a pretty good boat. Deciding on new or used boat should be easy. A new boat will cost a lot more than a used one. and you will get more for your money with a used one. I would suggest, you go to a very trusted marina, and talk to them. Reason being, a boat is not like a car you can jump in and try it out. Some people are very dishonest, and selling you a bad boat would be easy pickens. If you go to a dealer, and have problems, you have someone to fall back on. If they bulk, there is always the better business bureau. No business likes getting a letter from them.
