i work for a retail auto parts store.we have no sign that says mercruiser,yet still i get at least one goober a day asking for boat parts.my question is why do they get upset when i tell them to go to the marina???? if you needed heart surgery you wouldnt go to your dentist because he's cheaper and then whine because he wont do it would you? if you wanna own a boat,go to the freakin marina,take it with no grease and be happy.when my harley breaks down i dont go to the drug store and ask for parts,i go to the harley dealer.

Some people just don't know, they are seeking help, I know it must be annoying but, try to understand. Some auto parts stores near the water by me carry "Some" marine parts, it has been a God send for many people down at my dock. They stock 2-stroke oil, Marine 12 volt batteries, bulbs, wires, spark plugs, solder, one place even had "Anchor and Bow lights", another had a small rack with many marine parts, fuses, electric connector's, Flashlights, etc.Depending on what parts store you work for(NAPA, etc.).
I have purchased several parts for my mercruiser at NAPA as they have an entire parts book for marine applications, they had the stuff in stock where the local Mercruiser dealer would have to have ordered the parts. Before you get angry at us boat owners, ask some questions about your own store to see what's available. If you are on a commission or sales bonus program, it could put more $ in YOUR pocket, not the marina's. My $.02 worth.

Being polite to any customer is good for business. Your parts store may have a spark plug in stock that can be used on a Merc engine. There may be other parts you have that can be used. As a retailer, politely informing your customer that you do not stock certain parts may entice him to come back with other busines. Once you lose a customer, you may never get him back.Not only do some auto stores carry marine parts.. some auto parts are interchangeable with marine parts, and thus, will cost less at an auto store than it would at a marine store.
We all know that marine stores jack up the prices on even the simplest things.
