sure, thats what houseboats are. You get a postbox, and rent space at a dock. That would become your address. Go down to your local harbor/ dock and talk to someone. There may be people there living in their houseboats. They could answer your questions

Lots of people do it.....they are called houseboats. I live in a small rural community that has a river and lots of people live on their boats year round. I know that some people choose to live on boats in larger cities because it is cheaper than rent. As for the mail, get a PO box at the nearest post office. Sounds like fun.

WOW.... i cant believe i just saw your question..i was only thinking the same thing the other day..of selling mu house and buying a barge or some kind of boat to live on..i think you have to pay some kind of waterways tax or something...you will have to look into it..also i think about the post...you will have to get a p/o box somewhere on land....i though about it and where i could more the boat ect..and the cost of having it grounded each year for any repairs and service ect...i didnt get too deep into yet...as its early days...but the idea is in my head....its a great thought...i hope you pursue it and get all the info you can...as will i....good luck

Yes you can live aboard. I have been doing it for 7 years. I have friends who have lived aboard for 12+ years. I live aboard a 38 ft sailboat with my wife and 2 cats. The legality varies by location. In our area the general rule is that 10% of the slips in a marina can be liveaboards. We receive our mail at a PO Box and our harbor office will receive packages for us. There are many people who live aboard boats and cruise throughout the world.
It is a very different lifestyle from landlubbers. You have to downsize and be efficient in your use of space and resources. The life is quite liberating.
