What happened to the H.M.S Reward?
It all depends on what set up you have. If your not worried about top speed or gas mileage , have handling problems, prop blow out or have a vibration problem and the extra cost of a propeller blade, then buy a 4 blade. They were originally designed for motors that have allot of weight on a boat that would benefit from lifting the Stearne and bring the boat up on plain quicker. For instance a flats boat used in shallow water. 3 blades are more economical all the way around, the right one for your application anyway. Need help choosing the right prop for your application feel free to ask, 3 or 4...stupid is correct, there is no substitute for the right prop! How where pirate captains usually picked?
The pro of a 4 blade is it has one more blade than a 3. The con of a 3 blade is it has 1 less than a 4 blade. The pro of a 3 is it has 1 more than a 2. The con of a 4 is it has 1 less then a 5.Generally speaking a 4 blade will give you more lift(great for hole shots) and more control. They are usually used on heaver style boats, or people who pull tubes, skiers, etc. Where as a 3 blade is better for speed.
But a lot depends on the HP, Load, Style of Boat, Transom angle, Jack Plate, etc.
I run a 3 blade on my 20ft bass boat.
And some people I know run 4 blades, its all a matter of your style of driving and what kind of performance you are after.
How do I register a boat thats been sitting in my barn for over 30 yrs .?
after many, many years in the business, i can tell you without a doubt the only advantage to a 4-bladed prop is less vibration. there is no "hole shot" or "pick up" to it as compared to a three blade of the correct size. try a 5-blade for the smoothest experience.More Questions & Answers ...
