Question:
I own a 1990 Regal Valanti 225SC. It is 22.5 feet long, what is the best way to remove fiberglass blisters and then get the bottom re gel-coated? I was thinking of that soda-blasting thing people are using now...
Answers:
what are the job titles held at a container port? the person who locks container ships and unlo?
soda blasting may work but I'd be leary of leaving residue behind.....the same objection to sand blasting. What will work is a 4 1/2" grinder and lots of 36 grit disks......grind out the blisters in a football shaped divot that is wider at the surface than at the bottom...WEAR full protective gear..a painters suit taped at the elbows and wrists, goggles, head gear and a really good respirator....glass is the most itchy thing known to man.......take COLD showers to get it off you NOT HOT!Which country has their boat registration begin with YAA?
After you have ground out the blisters.....go away. A month would be good....to make sure all the water has dried out. Then fill in the divots with several football shaped layers of chopped mat, each on a little bigger than the next till it's flush.
Use epoxy resin. ONLY EPOXY RESIN.
Sand the repairs smooth; rough sand the whole bottom of the boat so all the paint is off and the existing gel coat rough; overcoat with the Interlux barrier coat system...I think that's 3 coats...or three coats of WEST epoxy and you're good to go for ten years
If a yacht is advertised as a Nicholson, could it have been built in Essex boatyard at St Osyth?
Sand it or soda it, prep it, fix it. good old boat has some nice articles on that stuff,.
remember Ase-ton is a chemical to remove fibreglass.
but the are risky ting to Handel (Fire)(and to you body)
so the best way is used el-tool withe steel/stone plate to remove
the gel-coated.but take care it is issy to go true the boot.
