Question:
I'm re stating a previous question. I was boating and all of a sudden i heard a loud spinning noise and the boat slowly stopped. The engine still ran, but it wouldnt go into gear, when i put it into gear it made a grinding noise. My first thought was i had hit somthing but i was too far out, and the prop nor the lower unti recieved ne kind of damage. I did notice the shifter cable was out of place, i think it may have gotten pinched. The boat has a inboard/out board engine. Ne ideas of wat happne?

Why is ship building industry called one off its kind?
I had this exact same problem with my Inboard Outboard Canoe. It was the stern lite was burned out.It seems your problem is located somewhere between the shifter and the lower unit. First off, can you shift it manually at the IO unit? You should be able to, and see if your prop turns. Put it on the trailer, put on the water ears, turn on the hose and see if you have power to the prop. If you don't want to go threw all of that, with engine off, manually put unit in gear,(forward), and try to turn prop by hand. It should turn very hard, as you will be turning over the engine. If it spins, skips or is free, you need to look inside your IO unit. Believe it or not, they are fairly simple to examine. If you are not experienced with these, I would suggest you take it to the pros's. You could also drain the grease from the unit, by removing the drain plug, and the upper plug. See if it has filings, metal, or any water in it. Save it so too can be examined by a professional.
Does anyone know about Blue Water boats made in the 60's?
You either lost a lower unit gear or the prop rubber bushing inside the prop has let go.Recheck linkage to make sure it is at proper adjustment. If you lost forward you may still have reverse.Drain grease from lower unit and see if you have metal in oil . If yes then you located a out drive gear failureWhat do i need to buy to have thruhull exhaust on a boat?
