What kind of whistle does the QM2 have?
Not really... the difference in the height of the mast is pretty much attributable to the sailplan and displacement /ballast of the vessel. How can i modify my remote contol sailboat?
For example, our vessel is an Aloha 27 footer. The mast is about 33 feet in height. A similar length boat would be a Catalina 27 with a mast of about 38 feet or a Cal 27 with a mast of nearly 40 feet. All are pretty much designed as cruiser/racers.
IS there any marine terms guide or webside?
Both the Catalina and Cal are considerably heavier than our boat. (We're 5414 lbs designed weight with 2200 lbs ballast, while the Catalina tips the scales at 6550 and the Cal is the heavyweight of the three at some 6700 pounds.)
In general that is true. A 20ft sailboat will have a smaller mast than a 40ft sailboat. However boats are built with different purposes in mind and so there are variations on this generalization. A 16ft hobie cat has a tall mast (25.5ft) and large sail area (218 sf) compared to a J24 sailboat which is 8 feet longer (50% bigger) than the hobie 16 yet only carries a bit more sail area at 261 sf a difference of only 43 sf and has a mast height of about 33ft. So mast height and boat length are an okay correlation to make but its not a rule and mast height wont tell you about boat performance.
It is true that a 20 foot sail boat will have a shorter mast than a 40 footer. The sail plan is also a factor. How many masts? Tall rig? Hull design?
The height of the mast is dependent on the factors that regulate the needed power. Sail plans are designed in a formula dependent on boat stability and desired performance. Example a Hunter 30 might carry a 50 foot mast and a Catalina 30 might have a 40 foot mast. Mast height is dependent n desired sail plan and needed power to push the hull design of the boat.
