Question:
I bought a boat on Ebay for $1600 cash and got a title and bill of sale. The same day I bought the boat I left the enveelope w/the bill of sale and title outside and it was taken. I can prove the boat belongs to me via ebay and email records, but the dmv tells me I need a signed title by the seller. I've contacted the seller several times and each time he tells me he'll get a replacement, but it's been almost 2 years and he's never sent one. Does anyone know how I can get a new title? I'd like to sell the motor and keep the hall. Can I part it out w/out a title? Please help, I get sooo angry when I see the boat sitting on my front lawn!

Dadgum taxman, yes you can part the boat out BUT you cannot sell the part where the HIN is. The HIN, Hull Indent Number is located on the Starboard Aft and Starboard Bulkhead. Now the trick. /snickers
Find anybody that has a Salvage License, almost every skipper does, loan your boat to a friend, they will prolly lose your boat, let the Skipper find it, pay them a recovery fee as a Salvaged Boat, now apply for a Title under those terms. It works after every Hurricane that hits us.
Wait a sec, that new law says you have to pay State Sales Tax on items purchased over the Internet, there is your ace in the hole. If you paid tax on the Purchase, the State recognizes you as the owner, therefore a title must be issued in your name, or the State owes you some serious monies.
Consult an attorney on that one, but I think that case has gone to a court.
I would still go Pirate yar yar yar and lose it. and magically find it!
Installing a sonar system on a boat?
I moved to Fl and have the same problems. Wisconsin has no titles or plates on trailers or boats less than 16'. They wanted me to say I built the trailers I needed plates for. I refused to commit purgury, I use the trailers anyway and I am waiting for them to take me to court. All states are quick to say you can use and transfer vehicles from state to state. Since the laws very, I find problems. What is the difference between a frigate, cruiser, destroyer?
You can easily sell the motor separately, as it does not need a title. The previous owner may have procrastinate on this not wanting to pay the duplicate title fee. Depending upon the state that issued the original title, you may be able to request forms for a bill of sale and duplicate title. Fill them in and send them to the original owner with a check to cover the duplicate title fee and a stamped self addressed envelope. That should allow him to sign and send it in without much effort on his part. Good luck.More Questions & Answers ...
