I am looking to buy a new boat and want to create an audit sheet as I go out and check the boats.
If you are a boat expert or love boats, then what questions would I need to ask before I buy the boat. Thanks for your help in advanced.!

what you are doing is a survey, not an audit and its a REALLY BIG subject.....imagine asking what do I look for in buying a house...what does a 14 foot boston whaler dauntless weigh?
since everything known to Man is on the net somewhere, type in "boat survey" + "checklist" in your search engine and see what comes up...
...a sailboat? a powerboat? inboard engine outboard engine? use in fresh or salt....how far way form shore? overnight?

There are dozen of question to ask and small stuff to look at.......like, are all wires stranded tinned and all connections shrink wrapped/sealed?
Here's a new problem you can ask about and sound really smart....if gasoline powered, and there are fiberglass internal tanks, are the tanks warranted to stand up to gasohol mixtures? With the addition of alcohol/ethanol to gas recently, there has been aspate of fiberglass TANKS.....not just the fuel lines but the TANKS themselves failing cause the ethanol eats the resin.....

If it's a fiberglass boat with an outboard, the first question I'm asking is "How old is the motor" ? and " Do you have the recipts for changing out the water pump every other year, then I would start inspecting the transome for stress cracks, I would ONLY be looking at a "Boston Whaler", that boat won't sink, thats a mighty great piece of information you start off with, RIGHT THERE !name types of boats and images of them for work?

If you buy a New boat you should find the information you need in the owners manual. I did. Ask for the owners manual and read it before you buy. After you read the first one you'll know what to ask the rest of them.
