it has minor scratches, glue from old carpet, and dirt in finish from previous owners refinish job. also what would be be thing to use to fill in screw holes. how is best ways to fill in old holes for speedometer and fuel gauge, also holes about size of stereo unit that was covered with plates?(looks like they cut them out to get wire ran

To remove the scratches I would use 150 or as low a 120 you will need to ferther out the edges with 180, then 220 grit. for patching the holes I would patch them with fiberglass strips or cover it with an aluminum plate and then paint.

I wouldn't try to fill old dash holes. Cover them with a billet piece or make a wooden cover and cut out holes for new gauges. Attatch the new piece from the back so screws don't show.

Take the boat to a boat repair shop, or you could even call a hot tub repair person to do the job. If you try it yourself without proper training, you will make it look like you did with playdough, and you could go as far as injuring yourself or burning your boat to the ground. I worked for Apollo Boat Mfg for five years, and I can tell you it is better to pay the pro in this case. If you insist on buffing the boat out, start with 400 wet/dry, then 1500 wet/dry, then buff with a good buffing compound, followed by a good wax.
