i,m istalling a trim and tilt motor on my boat engine should the motor be up or down?

they actually used to use wooden pegs to join them with, sort of like we use nails now,,but they would put them together and let them swell up in the water ,and that would seal them off,and as a helper they also used bee,s wax to help seal off any leaks,,it was a lot of work compared to how we do it now,but there's some sites on here about boat building you might want to check out,,you can type in just boat building,,and it will lead you to just about any of them, there pretty interesting to read,,good luck,i hope this help,s.

The spaces between the planks are caulked—that is, stuffed with oakum; tar soaked untwisted ropes. As the ship sat in the water the wood swelled creating a water tight seam.
