Question:
types used by private yacht to comunicate to shore
Answers:
Where can I find good used boats in the d.c. metro area?
Typically today, VHF (Very High Frequency) which has limited scope in terms of distance, SSB (Single Side Band) for much longer distances are used for two way communications. VHF is usually used to call up harbours, marinas other vessels, Channel 16 emergencies and the like. Of course the Aldis lamp or Semaphore are also options providing you are within site of the shore and know your codes and Morse. But the chances of finding someone at random that also knows these codes is pretty remote. Today, providing you are within range you can use a mobile phone, if not there are sat. phones but these are usually very expensive. There is also a one way ship to shore communication which is used in a dire emergency via an EPIRB or 406 MHz beacon. This is used when the vessel is in serious trouble and it can transmit a signal which identifies the vessel and gives its' location.
What does "S.S." mean on the side of a boat?
quit cheating on you school work!MSiS...MSIS..My s_h_i_t is sinking.
Most use VHF for close range, HF for long range, and those that can afford it use satellite.
What should I bring on a boat trip?
Cell phones, marine VHF.where do you register for cunard world club.?
PS
I believe the US Coast Guard's Rescue 21 system will take advantage of the ability to locate cell phone call origination points, and will thus speed up location/rescue of near-shore boats in distress.
where can I find an exhaust housing for a 1989 evinrude 175hp?
a Marine VHF radio is used for up to "about" 26 miles off shore. DO NOT DEPEND ON A CELL PHONE, VHF is needed as cell phones are NOT dependable on water. Channel 16 (DISTRESS) is monitored by the coast guard, and is a direct link for ANY emergency. I had forgotten my radio one day, and an emergency came up, a BIG ONE ! I used my cell phone to call the Coast Guard, it went dead during the comms., I used my wifes cell phone to call back, got them, and they made it on scene but, It was a hassel, it consumed time while I was trying to dial and hold onto a person in the water who was screaming with a broken hip, NOT AN EASY TASK, I ASSURE YOU, get the radio, it's cheap "LIFE" insurance.More Questions & Answers ...
