Intake clogged with algae?

Question:
hey all its about time to get back into the water and i just started up my boat mercury 40hp outboard and noticed that there is something off.water is kinda spraying out uneven and appears to be barely making it out..not the normal 'pee' stream.the whole motor is pretty covered in algae including the intake vents where it was in the water over winter.what do i do?? im new to boats so only thing i can think of is to take it to a shop but is there something i can do like clean off the algae or is the algae inside the motor and cant be reached? or should i just leave it running and maybe it will work its way out?? i have no idea please help

I lost title to trailer and need to get a duplicate of it.?

thanks in advance

Where can I find cross reference numbers for carb kit/parts for Mercruiser 2bbl Rochester Carb ?

Open up the cowling (the hood of the engine and pull the rubber hose off the plastic piece attached to the motor(the little thing the water sprays out of). then you can push the plastic thing right out and clean. then go down on the lower unit and clean where it sucks up water. this is an easy fix that you can easily do yourself.

What happens if different amps are used in parallel 12v batteries will they discharge & recharge ok?

You can scrub the engine down and use a scrub brush on the water intake. Take a paper clip and see if you can clear out the pee hole. You should probably get the engine serviced for the season, lower unit oil changed, engine oil changed if its a 4 stroke, plugs grease etc.

Who makes the best pontoon boat? Starcraft / Voyager / any others?

being in the navy we always used simple green to soak algae ridden parts. if it is your intake then spray simple green on the little screen on the lower unit. when i say spray i mean DOUSE it good. Then, take a lower unit flushing kit. you can buy these at any marine store. it has two suction cups on it. hook up your garden hose and turn onthe water. Start the motor and let it run. you can do this in your driveway or yard. I use my boat in the salt water and freshwater so what i usually do is after taking the boat in the salt water i go to a freshawater lake, back the boat into the water at the landing and start the moter and let it run for a few. this flushes everything out. At the end of the season flush the motor out with a lower unit flushing kit and you should be good to go. Alot of people overload flsuhing their motors out and that cuts the life in half almost. Good Luck

Question about sailboats?

When you get the algea off, clean and dry, you must apply "Anti-Fouling" coating or paint to the engine. This kills marine growth BEFORE it starts. If the "Tell Tale" or as you put it "Pee Stream" is weak, that may be bad, whats more important is if the engine is cooling properly, if it is NOT, it will be toast soon, better get it checked properly, you don't want to overheat "Aluminum heads". The water pump on an outboard should be replaced every other year, it's the weakest link. Speaking of links...http://www.theoutboardwizard.com/...

On some seaside their are piers or pontoon or jelly, iwant to know manufacturer of such jelly from fiberglass?

Hey there's nothing wrong with the first two answer do those first. except dont paint the lower unit unless your never going to pull your boat out of the water. but if your motor is more than a couple of years old the water pump impeller maybe getting stiff and tired. After prolonged periods of sitting the vanes get a set to them from sitting in one place for so long. the older the impeller the less flexible they become, mercury change the design of the impeller on the outboards to what they call a floppy vaned impeller that helped with this problem a lot, but even the floppy vane pumps can take a set after they get older. Moral of the story if you haven't had the water impeller change in a couple of years Have it changed. I know some will say I've been running the same impeller for 12 or more years. and yes I know people who have, but I'm the kinda guy that's unlucky on everything. So I've learned to not push my luck especially on the water. hope this help
