How to replacing boat control lever its a side mount with trim controls.?

Question:
the electrical wires for trim control is broken in the lever, I need to remove it but cant figure out how to take the darn thing out. it is side mounted type comtrol for a bayliner 2855, took out the set screw but cant seem to wiggle the handle out is there a trick or something that I am missing.?
