we will be going like 40mph then the motor seems to bog down and run with very low rpms. some times if we shut the boat down then restart it it works fine or not.

are you using an in line fuel filter???if not, you probably need to rebuild and clean your carb about every 2-3 weeks or your engine will run as described.
keep the fuel filter clean.
these engines are touchier than automobile engines--they are smaller and simpler--keep good fuel in thwe tank and an in line filter between the tank and the engine.

There are lots of questions to ask before I can answer this one. Is it intermittent or constantly when you get to speed? Is it when the engine warms up? How old is the engine / is it 2stroke or 4 stroke?Things to check.

It sounds very much like a fuel delivery problem. This happened to me over the summer. It would run fine except that long periods of full throttle would kill it. I found a tiny air leak in the fuel line near the tank, which was sucking in air, and running the engine out of fuel. Heres my two opinions. You may have a bad spark plug. You could be dropping one at speed. Or you may need a new cdi(?) box. The boat I just bought needed it replaced. I really don't even know what it does either. But my boat would get up to 5100 rpm at wot and then drop to 4000 rpm at wot. Changing the cdi box fixed it. Good luck!More Questions & Answers ...
