I used to have a steam engine made by Mamod. There was a little box thing full of cotton wool which you doused with meths and then lit and put under the (filled) water tank. It would take ages to hot up, but then it would actually go!Have i actually sunk this canal barge - at least 3 inches are still above water?
whats the problem??I remember back in the 1950's in the U.S., there were small steam boats that ran on candle power. There was a coil of copper tubing that extended through the stern of the boat, The water would enter the tubing, and as the candle heated it, would be expelled as steam, propelling the boat forward. It made a "popping" sound as it moved. We used to call them "Putt Putt Boats" when we were kids. You can still by them in hobby shops.
