Question:
I am 40 years old with no children, going through my 3rd divorce. I am thinking of selling it all and moving to the Caribbean. I was thinking about living on a boat. Either a sailboat or a small cruiser, I am not sure. I would appreciate any advice on this idea from those of you who may have experienced this or know someone who has.

I want to buy autopilot for my husbands boat. what kind do i need 25ft trophy?
so yeah, its very doable....the other posters so far;6 kids is a little pessimistic, and stacy is closer to reality.....
What would be better than Crownline or considered "top of the line" compared to Crownline?
there are plenty of boats to buy when you get here, and you can spend anything from 20 to 75,000.start small and cheap, learn how to live aboard and how to sail and then move up as your skills increase...start reading Cruising World magazine, and more to the point www.caribbeancompass.com. the monthly newspaper for Caribbean cruising sailors.
plan on starting out in the US Virgin Islands....no passport or visa hassles for Americans..in fact fly down for a week or two and scope things out....
and be aware.the ratio of men to unattached women is about 7 to 1 here so be prepared for being besieged with admirers
What are good names to name my boat?
You will need a boat not smaller than 45 feet. You will need firearms as there are pirates (seriously). You will need a boat fully self-sufficient for fresh water treatment of sea water. You will need no less than 5 anchors of differing types including a sea anchor. You will need a tender/dinghy with no less than a 15hp outboard. The list is almost endless. It will be expensive to start with but awesome to do.I think I have bad fuel in on old chrysler 35hp outboard. How do I change it?
well if you want to live there take a cruiser just a small vacatian take a sailboat, take a safe and secure boar cuz of the big storms that might attack also if you are sea sick it would not be a good idea of going.Where can i get new decals for a blue evinrude 70 horse engine i am trying to restore it.?
I am planning to do the same thing on a sailboat in a couple of years. I am in the research mode at this time and learning to sail on a day sailor. Planning to go on a 28-32 footer , planning to pick one up for about 10k and spend another 10 getting it set up to my needs. Water maker and solar/wind power are big on my list.Good Luck.
My wife and I are 48, we plan to do the same within the next 3 years. We have been to Trawler Fest in Stuart Florida just recently. We have our eyes on getting a 42 foot trawler. Not just the Caribbean though, we want to be able to do the "great loop" or even cross to Bermuda etc. Trawlers typically have a single diesel engine, they have full displacement hulls, and have miserly fuel consumption. Start going to boat shows, check out Kadey Krogen and Nordhavn trawlers. Myself, I can't wait to be afloat :)
