How would you find an old sailboat?

Question:
My friend's dad built three sailboats during his lifetime, all named the "restless". The last one built was last seen in Chicago Harbor quite a few years ago. Is there any way to track these boats down, at least the last one if it is still in existence? If so, what information would I need to have to do it? The builder died last week at age 93.

Answers:

1973 johnston 9.5 hp. I can not find a pea hole. Were dose the water come out?

If You can locate the registration information for any of the boats, you might be able to trace the ownership of the vessels. Maybe the builders' family has some of the original documents.
If you know the marina where a boat was located, you may be able to find that owners' information, or the marina records may contain the registration information.

am looking for a small hydraulic pump/drive? for ROV project?

place an ad in international or national or local boating mags looking for the specific boaat--go online under the builder name--sometimes it takes a long time to find an old boat.
