Price and weight. A welded boat cost more and weighs more. Takes an extra hp for every 25 lbs of added weight. Drinks more gas!! If your just fishing go with a high quality riveted boat. If your working construction go with the welded rig. I own both. They will both last about 25 years....riveted boats are welded in places also, it's convenience. Skyscrapers are riveted and tack welded. Welds are known to separate and leak also. Take a look at a ship and tell me what you see. There are pros and cons for each. There are good welded boats and bad. The same goes for the riveted style. Welds are used in mass producing , cuts cost. I have both like I say. You brake a weld in a chop, it will leak a lot faster than a loose rivet. Now you choose.
