Assuming you're talking lead-acid batteries, all should be fine, with the caveat mentioned by the other responder... all must be in good condition. Once one of the batteries develops a shorted cell, it will only be able to reach between 11-12 V max. and that will limit the charge all the other parallel batteries will take. Those with all good cells will then be undercharged, and the 'bad' one with the shorted cell will start going downhill fast because the remaining cells will overcharge. The discharge rates are limited by each batteries' construction, but in parallel all will contribute to the powering of whatever load you're trying to drive. Other battery technologies, such as Ni-Cad and Li-Ion, do not lend themselves well to 'ganging' in parallel because the voltages created by individual cells vary. Lead-acid batteries provide a near-identical 2.2V per cell. 12V lead-acid batteries are of six-cell construction, and actually provide 13.2V when fully charged. How do I clean carbs in boat motors.I have a1985 merc 60hp.?
If you're doing what I think you're doing... using an engine mounted gen/alt and adding a trickle charger like a solar panel or wind machine.. get a battery isolator with dual inputs. Newmar or Cole Hersee makes 'em. That should solve your problem of mixed amps in. Power out will not (or should not) be affected.More Questions & Answers ...
