pay, education, vaction,
Answers:
The above ships each have two captains. One to supervise the crew- staff captain, and the other who has the responsibility of everything that goes on in the ship.
Education is usually 4 years of college, and one year of sea time in each grade- 3rd mate, 2nd mate, chief mate then captain. Additional schooling is required between each step. Having your captains license by no means guarantees you a job as captain. I've seen them sailing 3rd mate before.
Boat has old gas in it, how do I dispose of it or do I run it until its gone?
Before you aim for the top, start out at the bottom for a few months to see if you even like shipboard work. They're always hiring in Hawaii.
How were tall ships moved into place next to a pier for mooring without motors?
safety of passengers, crew, and ship .. licensed captain controls all aspects of the ship, from personal problems of the crew, passengers, navigating charts, every thing that is on the liner, they have people under him/her that control different aspects, and the chain goes on, but gets reported back to the captain, who has the final decision, rate of pay depends on the contract, usually around 60 to 95 k per yr, normal vacation period pending contract agreement, IF you are thinking of a career decision like this, the benefits out weigh the job, try to get a job on a liner for a year, and see how you like it, but don't forget about ship hours, it is not 7 to3 or any thing like that, try it ,, it is not going to kill ya and you will see some cat asss places and get paid...pay is the lowest in the merchant marine industry. education is x-amount of years to achieve an unlimited master's license. "vaction?" is you work 6mos. one way or the other & you're off the same. just be aware that the captain is responsible for every person on the ship...passengers and crew. trust me, they can all be a p.i.t.a. small ferries in the leeward islands are better as far as fun and lack of stress...money is pretty good, too. do you like RUM?

To add to the above statements. Just like an airline captain, a cruise ship captain is at the pinnacle of his career and normally it takes years of service for a company to rise to the job. You start low and work your self up. RC's has two captains per ship one off and on. (Not to drink - Ha Ha that is a good one).Research maritime schools to get training as an officer.
Me ship the Lady Brooklyn be hurt, can any sea salt assist me?
+ The job is the same as the Captain of any vessel. The pay depends on the shipping line, Vacation ? Well it depends on how much you can take. I have a friend Capt Volpe who works for Carnival, he has been there for many years and seems happy. I met his family who was with him on the Spirit out of Los Angeles CA a couple of years ago so there are possibilities. You need to achieve a master Mariners Capt license and that does not mean you will be the Captain, that just gets you a deck officers job. Politics play into it as well.More Questions & Answers ...
