I have a 25 hp mercury motor how do I tell what year it is?

Mercury? go figure their the only on ones that don't go by some type of coding system that an average Joe can decipher, Like its some big secret what year a motor was made!! Well Anyway the serial number designates the manufacturing date. the dealer has a sheet that tells them. IE a 25hp from serial xxxxxx to xxxxxx was built in say 1987. call a dealer and ask. hopefully you'll get the answer.
