first unplug the round wiring harness form the control box to the motor The plug is about an inch in diameter and is located under the motor cowling you might have to do some digging to find it. By unplugging this you separate the engine wiring from the boat wiring Now use a starter-button to crank the engine over. spark you have a short in the control wiring harness. No spark still. then try this you'll find a box on the motor that has several wires connected to it this is the switch box (it does What it name says it switches the spark on and off) look for a black wire with a yellow trace on it this is the kill circuit. disconnect the wire from the switch box and crank the motor over. if you have spark check the engine wiring harness for a short or bad mercury tilt switch. If no spark then it could be 3 things 1 the trigger (controls timing of spark) 2 the stator( it provides the current the switch box or 3 the switch box to find out how to test these go to rapair.com click on downloads then click on trouble shooting guide It will give you all the specs for each part and give you and an ohm reading you should get to determine which part is bad.
