I would suggest that you do not strip the paint off, only sand it to allow the next coat to adhere. They have a great coat of paint and primer on there. In areas where its bad sand to bare metal and prime it. Then coat it with whatever you are using.

Your other option is sandblasting. You can buy a handheld blaster for cheap ($20 or so), but you will need an air compressor.

take the engine to a local autobody shop and have them tape off and sandblast the engine then prime and paint to the color you like
