Question about erging (for rowers)?
A line with knots in it. The line is knotted every so many feet. It has a float on it. You drop it over the side and count the number of knots that go through your hand. You have a minute "hourglass" and count the number of knots in a minute. The earliest method used on sailing ships was for one person to go foreward on the ship. At a signal from a person at the stern he would drop a floating object, like a small piece of wood into the water at the side of the boat. The person at the stern would count the seconds for the ship to pass the piece of wood.
By knowing the length of the ship and the time it took to go that distance, it was easy to calculate to speed .
HELP Whats wrong with this Jetboat. engine ..Rebel rush mercury?
I agree with the first answer they probably used the equation s=d/tThat is speed equals distance divided by time.
