I hear that the IWA, BW, and "Wergies", WRG have a bit of a problem with upcoming funding, to ensure our present & expanding lovely systems flourish.
This is sad.
I pay all my fees / licences etc, which apparantly will not help much towards the costs of a pair of local new lock-gates.
What to do ?
Any good ideas ?

I am not familiar with foreign government agencies involved with inland waterway infrastructure. In the U.S. it is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They are responsible for maintaining the locks, levees, and project channel depths for inland waterways. This is a money issue. Some questions to ask are, Who owns or has jurisdiction over them? who will benefit from this maintenance? Are these systems viable for commercial use, and are they currently used for commerce? If it is not cost effective to maintain these systems, or there is not a strong maritime lobby in the government you probably will not see quick results. I suggest contacting your government representitave, getting the word out to other concerned people, and have them do the same.The federal government has diverted all funding for the ICW and no dredging got done. There does not seem to be any interest in pleasure boating as far as improving or even keeping up the waterways. I do not have any suggestions other than stop the war. They have no concept of the economic benefit that the ICW travelers provide the local communities.
