From what I heard they will give you a low offer. You may be better off selling private party.they buy way low, and sell them way high. i'd throw it on www.cars.com or ebay and local ads first and see if you can't sell it that way...

they pay pretty low. they'll do their own check on it, and try to find every little thing that's wrong. i took my old car to them, and they offered me $1,200. I ended up selling it myself for $2,500. If i were you, i'd take it to carmax and get their offer, and then add 1,000 to 1,500 to their offer and try to sell it myself. if you can't find any takers, you can always take it back to carmax.What is better,a pontiac or a nissan altima?
Carmax offered me $7000 for my pristine, garage kept, drove only on sundays 2002 Camaro with 30,000 miles on it last summer and I sold it privately for $12,500. They tried to give me the chorizoIt's unanimous ... you'll get a low offer.

One of carmax's claims to fame is that they sell cars below blue book value at a no haggle price. Therefore they don't give alot for trade ins. They can't. Or they wouldn't be able to sell it below blue book... so if you are not buying a car there... i wouldn't trade it in there. Unless you are unable to sell it by yourself.More Questions & Answers ...
