Answers:
Actually they are pretty accurate. I think NADA is more accurate though...but the differences are small.
I know that my truck was considered totalled due to a recent wreck. Out of curiosity (and greed lol) I went to look up how much I would be given from the insurance payout)
When I went to look up the KBB and NADA price it said my truck was worth about 3 grand.
Honestly my reaction was like yours "no way!!" The truck had over 200,000 miles on it and honestly before the wreck I wouldnt give 1000 bucks for it. It was a 91 chev. But sure enough thats how much the insurance is giving us. I only paid $1800 for it at auction 5 years ago. But I got a deal because auctions are like that...you go with your gut and hope not to get screwed!!
I think even though it had so many miles and looked like crap, we took excellent care of the motor and tranny and it was extended cab. The wreck caused the frame to bend and so at that point the truck was useless. So in my situation thats what KBB and NADA looked at.
They seem legit to me...

They have no control over how much money the government circulates.. causing certain vehicle prices to be astronomical...
How if I buy used car in the UK?
yupper stick to black book 4 buying and add about 500 to 1000 when selling good luckHow much should I pay for a vauxhall corsa 1.2?
I agree. It went the other way for me, $1,000 for my 94 Mustang GT with a 5.0.but i'm purchasing as a pawned car i won't pay no more than $500 4 tha car so what?
I traded it in yesterday pending todays auto loan for a 2007 and made about $1000 full on my car. You might as well sell your car and use the money as a down payment...a lot easier, faster and you don't get ripped off.
Kelly blue book is not a scam, there are certain guidlines they go by. just becasue a car has a lot of miles doesnt mean its not worth anything. take for example a 91 chevy truck with 300,000 miles on it is still worth at least 3,000 dollars becasue they are good engines. Plus the prices kbb gives are just guidlines, not exact.
Can I bargain the price of a used car?
kelly blue book is legit as far as i know; will you get the same price from a dealer or a private citizen? that is not something that can be guaranteed. These days, you can easily find out about a company using the internet in a few minutes.
