The Altima, as it will be more economical, more reliable and may well be cheaper to insure. Jeeps can be tippy when pushed through turns hard (as a young driver will probably try). Jeep reliability is also pretty bad. At least parts are plentiful and fairly cheap.

Jeeps have a standard Oil leak problem that comes with them. They also aren't that great on gas. It really depends on the year of each of them. I haven't heard any complaints from the Nissan owners that I have talked to. Also, check on insurance on both, because that could be a deciding factor.

Nissan. Jeeps have some issues, the one mentioned above is only one of them. If taken care of properly, a Nissan will run forever. I'm on my second Nissan, and I don't even care to look at other brands. I've had others in the past, and I won't have them again.
