If the Ford Escape is a mid-sizer, I'd say that, but it's generally viewed as a small SUV. The Hybrid gets 33/29 city/highway. For real mid-sizers, I'd go with either the Toyota Highlander, or Nissan Murano. Murano and regular Highlander both get 19 mpg, and hybrid Highlander gets 22, though it's about five thousand more than the regular version, so it's probably not worth it.
