No such animal anymore. Try a church ( they are supposed to be the GIVING ones ). Thirty years ago you used to be able to pick up a heap that you could work on and it would get you around town for about a month or two. Maybe a family member or friend has a clunker that they are willing to give you or sell you cheap on a time payment plan. I'm not trying to be smart here but.....maybe look into donating one of your Kidney's in trade for a car ( plead your case as to the situation you face, you might get a car or even a loaner for your efforts) By the way I just purchaced a 07' car, it only cost me an arm and a leg!Mercury Mystique 1998 trade in?
Check if there is a FreeCycle or Craigs List in your area. You can often find inexpensive cars from Craigs List members, and once in a while someone will give one away on FreeCycle. You can post 'want' ads on both lists.what would be a good 90's rear wheel drive car for cheap?
A couple of years ago I picked up a Lumina Euro sedan for $150. I had to tow it home and install a new fuel pump, but it served me well. So you can get very cheap cars, you just usually have to do a lot of looking around and usually do some work. Look for the ones that don't run and then check them out to see if they have relatively minor problems (like broken fuel pumps). People often sell them cheap just so they don't have to deal with moving them. Rent a U-Haul dolly to move it.

Be careful about really cheap cars though, particularly if you are going to be providing it to someone who cannot easily deal with being stranded if the car breaks down.
does anyone own a 2007 toyota rav 4? what is your opinion?
It is a good idea to buy a AAA membership (about $200 a year I think) and a pay-as-you-go cell phone (such as Virgin Mobile or a prepay phone from a retailer like Wal-Mart, both of which have some options in the $20 range). If the car strands the driver she has the option of calling someone, including AAA for a tow.
