Is a Honda CR-V good or should he buy a different car. We had a mini van that was not working good at all.

the new CR-V handles much like a car, so it's really a SUV body and a sedan suspension, so don't expect much in the way of off-roading
stil, Honda's Real-Time AWD system is excellent as well, and can handle moderate off-roading
there lots of room within the cabin, and the console is well placed out and easy to use...the exterior looks modern, though the front design is pretty bad and looks messy

the engine is the weak part of the car: it need more power, and fully loaded could struggle a bit..if you do fill the car up often, the CR-V may not be such a smart option, so a Rav4 V6 or Outlander V6 may be smarter options
Both the Outlander & Rav4 are well built and offer lots of room, as well as '3rd row seats'

Either way, make sure your dad has a proper test drive of these cars, making theres enought room,enought power avalible and that he can use the car easily on a day-to-day basis [ie park it easily, use the console]

honda is a good car with a great resale value BUT... the CRV is a piece of shiite. any jap suv is built like crap. made to fold up very easy. accord is short for 'accordion'What makes newer model cars quieter?
if you want a large car sure, if you want a suv dont buy japanese crap.Honda CR-V is really good. It is a smaller SUV, but still very reliable and will give good mileage compared to other SUV's.

Remember it's still a 5 passenger vehicle and unless you need the AWD capability for snowy winters get a sedan, it will get you better gas mileage.
I have a 2000 CR-V ex and love the way it handles snowy roads and the ride/seating height. Very solid feel, well built and reliable. Fuel mileage is one of the best in the SUV segment, but you can do better in this department with a 4 cylinder sedan.
