I have 4-6k to spend on a car, although I appreciate this will be secondhand, I need something which is economical, similar to the yaris 5-dr 1.4 which is a little higher up than other cars due to a bad back :o(
I bought a car from a dealer and in less then 24 hours the car caught fire?
But I don't want anything which will loose it's value to quickly
I know this is a lot to ask someone but I'm at a loose end!
Any suggestions?

4-6K? aren't you sure how much you have, or will some of that amt be in the form of a loan?Find a Honda, Toyota, Nissan, or Mazda, have it checked by a mechanic, and you'll have MANY years of trouble free driving if you do regular maintenance.
You can buy a loty of car for £6000. Why not buy a decent diesel estate like I did for £750. It is a ford escort 1800cc diesel which does 43mpg or more and will not really depreciate anymore. I have had 2 years out of it already with no problems and will no doubt get five more. I won't lose anything on the car at all. If you did this you could afford to take your family on several holidays as well. By the way the cost of parts for Ford cars is very low indeed. I have had a few different makes ranging from Audi's which are good but veryexpensive to maintain, and citroens which are ok but again expensive. I would definitely go for a Ford. Good luck.

they both hold their value, cheap on insurance depending what size engine and you can choose what model you like best.
golfs hold their value very good but a corsa is cheap.
also, go for a diesel as that will help on your insurance.
