First, you should study some form of business education. Its pretty hard to run a copmany without it, especially starting up from scratch.I am looking to buy a new full-size SUV. Any suggestions on what I should get?
Secondly, you should try and take as many mechanical engineering classes as you can, including fabrication. Electrical and electronic engineering classes might also help.
Thirdly, just get making and doing. Make and design pieces in your spare time. Not only will it be practice at fabricating parts, but it will start to get your name out there, and boost your portfolio. Even if you only do 2-3 pieces a year, if they're nice ones, it will help.
Finally, remember one important thing. Any idiot can go buy something, and follow the instructions to install it. Be better, and realise that custom means custom, and let yourself be restrained only by your imagination.
