What would a sales consultant/floor manager at a car dealership do exactly?

Question:

Answers:

Accord or Camry?

A sales consultant is the individual at the dealership responsible for meeting/greeting the customer upon arrival at the dealership and does the needs assessment to determine which car the customer is interested in. It is the job of the consultant to help the customer decide which car they want to buy before determining a price on the vehicle.

How does part ex-ing your car work with exisiting finance?

The floor manager, or closer, is the individual that oversees all the sale people and usually does the pricing for the sales people. It is his/her responsibility to go in and TO(turn over) all unsold customers. Floor Managers typically started as salespeople and have more experience, so when they go in, it is primarily to see if there is anything to be done to make a deal right now. Depending on the showroom there may be more responsibilities for the floor manager, like ordering vehicles, but then I'd consider that to be a Sales Manager or General Sales Manager.

Some salespeople may be authorized to price their own vehicles or let their customers go without a TO, but typically those are the veteran salespeople and the Floor Manager knows that going in may be redundant and possibly off putting to the customer.

A sales consultant is basically another word for salesperson. You would simply help the customers choose a vehicle by asking them simple questions such as 2 or 4 door, color, transmission, etc. Depending on the dealership, a floor manager basically watches the salespeople and tries to initially close sales. Usually, they don't have too much authority in negotiating price. If they can't close a sale, the sales or finance manager will come in and do whatever they can to make a deal. Also, salespeople followup with customers they dealt with and keep the lot looking good.
