Question:
okay i was wondering when you drive with a standard transmission in stop and go traffic do you need to shift in and out of first al the time of is there another way?
also im buying/leasing my first car and i can drive standard (although i havent driven one since my driving course..7-8 months ago).my parents would rather i get an automatic (they think its safer and theyve never driven standard before although my dad says he can) so i was wondering is it better to get an automatic or a standard.on a 2007 pontiac G5 pursuit.
Answers:
the difference is that when you get stuck in a traffic jam, you don't really have to do much except just releasing your foot brake.
for a standard (manual), it would be more challenging to keep pressing in the clutch to leave at half-clutch and such.
I want to put my car for sale... how do I do that?
i drove an auto and a manual car before, the auto is great, the manual, only if you are specifically wanting to be able to shift gears at will, which is even better for the shift in sound and kick.
Where can I sell my car to? What are the things need to look into? pls help and thank you.?
Think about this, if you are going to be stuck in traffic for a long time, do you really want to deal with the clutch and shifter that much? if you dont have that much traffic then yeah you can get a std.. If you want to relax more while driving, then get an auto. What is a nice 4-seat convertible car?
As for lease/purchase. I think edomnds has a guide for this.
if you are poor with bad credit= lease
if you are poor with good credit= lease
if you have a good bank account and bad credit= purchase
if you have a good bank account and great credit= do whatever you want.
What would you do with a million pounds?
During negotiations, get a reasonable fixed price in your head and stick with it. DONT let them push you around. Remember, they need you more than you need them. You can always take your business somewhere else. Get invoice prices (dealers have a % hold back between 1-10%) if your invoice is 25,000 then you should get the car (total out-the-door) for no more than 27,000 incl tax/title/lic/fees. Oh yes, DONT pay the fees. negotiate that.
If you buy a car, how long do you have to have it before you can trade it in?
when you think you have a deal that will benifit you. then read the contract. if you see something that feels wrong, it probably is. see if they will let you take the UNsigned contract home, if not they are probably screwing you.
Can't afford my car, voluntary repo?
now if you want a good car, dont get a pontiac.
I'm looking into buying a new car. Can someone help me?
If you are driving in the city, yes you will be doing a lot of gear changes as you speed up and slow down. I've driven more standards than I have automatics and once you get used to driving a standard there is very little conscious thought involved in doing it. The only time it can become annoying is in a gridlock type situation where you are starting and stopping every 5 feet and constantly having to push in and release the clutch. Is it a "new" car if it had 512 miles?
Safety I don't feel enters into the decision unless they are contemplating the juggling of a steering wheel, gear shift, and big mac/newspaper/cellphone when you only have two hands. But the truth is you really shouldn't be eating a big mac, reading a newspaper, or holding a cell phone when driving regardless of your type of transmission.
How old do you have to be in order to buy & drive a 1988 Chevorlet Camero in Georgia?
As to whats better? Its really more personal preference. Standards are usually a little cheaper to purchase. Time was if you were really good you could improve your fuel economy by driving a standard, but I'm not certain with all the computerized fuel systems now that this is really a factor any more. Standards give you much greater control over the acceleration and power of the vehicle, which some people like especially on a sportier car. But all in all if you haven't driven a standard much, and especially if you are buying a new car, there's a chance you can wear the clutch out or wear a gear out if you don't know what you are doing or pick up some bad habits in your learning process. Not to mention people who drive standards seem to be a dying breed. This can be an advantage (people won't ask to borrow/drive your car) or a disadvantage (if you need help/can't drive people can't drive your car).
Does it make since that we pay American prices for cars built overseas?
Bottom line is there are risks/rewards with each. Just go with whatever combination of risk/reward you are most comfortable with.
