It shouldn't. A rear wheel drive will, if they are towing from the front and haven't removed the drive shaft (that's bad). A front wheel drive will be towed from the front, so the drive train isn't turning. If it's towed with the drive tires down where the tranny will be turned you could burn up your transmission (a friend at work had this happen).
