Our car gave up on us today & we want to get a new one instead of spending $2000 to fix the old one.
I am expecting a baby soon and I want to get a reliable but cheap car soon.Any suggestions pls?

Buy a low-mileage car from a private seller you will get the best deal that way. You can have AAA or a reputable mechanic check the car out for you to make sure it is running OK for about $100 -150 bucks, and do a Carfax report on the car to check for history of major damage). But really go with your gut, if the car feels good (doesn't shimmy when you drive it at speed, doesn't pull when you drive it, doesn't make weird sounds, all accessories work (remember to check air conditioning in winter) buy it.

Most used cars offered at used car lots are purchased from auto auctions so the seller knows nothing about the car. Many auctions are currently selling water damaged cars from storm areas of the south. By buying a car directly from the owner, you stand a better chance of getting information about the car's condition. (Look around at how the owner lives for a clue to maintenance.) Remember that a clean car is a cared for car. You may also investigate the car's history on line for a fee if you have the vehicle Id number. I have had good luck finding a used car in another state (for my son) using Craigslist.
