I would ask for the name and number of the previous owner. The previous owner has nothing to gain and has already have a deal that he/she wanted and will tell you exactly whats wrong with it. If the dealer doesn't want you to have this information, then he probably has something to hide.If you ask any dealership if there has been anything wrong with the car. They will say no. Ask for a Carfax report on the car before you do any signing on the car. Dont let them try to avoid the question because most places will do that. Make sure its the right car on the report. Match up the VIN #'s to make sure.
