what to do car lot problems?

As a professional salesperson who is in the business to make an HONEST living let me try to shed some light on this for you. Contrary to what some people may think or say most car salespeople and dealerships are in this to provide a service to the customer and make a reasonable profit in the process just like any other business. We are not here to rip you off! We can't stay in business very long doing that. With that said, if I was to start car shopping tommorrow I would first ask myself 2 questions. What type vehicle do I want, and how much of a monthly payment can I afford? After you have done this check your credit score, you can easily do this online.

Camry or Accord?

Here are the interest rates you can expect depending on your credit score. These are based on what I personally see every day.

2007 Suburban...?

below 600 20% - ?

do you have a 2cv az for sale??

Now that you know this go to www.bankrate.com. They have an auto payment calculator. Play with this.
Here is an example. Lets say you figure out that your interest rate is going to be about 12% and you want your payment to be $250 a month you will be able to finance about $13000 for 72mo. Just keep in mind this isn't the selling price this is the total to finance which will include Tax Title and License. A good way to negotiate is to negotiate an Out the door price that includes all fees. At this point I would reccomend going to Autotrader.com or cars.com and seeing what vehicles are in your price range. Pick out a few you like and start calling dealers. One thing to be aware of is the prices you find on these sites are going to be pretty firm. Your going to read all kinds of articles telling you how to negotiate and all these little tricks and so forth, don't listen to this crap. The best way to get a good deal is go into the dealership armed with information and be nice and easy to get along with. Print out Kelly blue book, on the vehicle you are looking at. Some times our prices are out of line and we will adjust them accordingly if we have a good reason to. Most generally we price our vehicles according to market value. When you read that you can automatically save $5000 on a used car that just isn't true. I hate seeing people waste money paying for these books on how to negotiate a good deal, it doesn't work! The worst thing you can do is go into a dealership and try to play hard ball, beleive me you will not get a good deal you will be shown the door. Be Nice! When someone comes in and makes me a reasonable offer based on good information I will go to bat for them and get them the deal.

What is up with Land Rover?

To sum this up have your information ready if you need it. If you don't need it then great you got a good deal!

Sales people are savvy to the fact that consumers can now obtain invoice pricing, msrp etc from sites such as Edmunds and others as well. They expect you to know this information, it's not a hindrance to them at all, actually a benefit, of course to consumers well.

Supply and demand still rules pricing, especially with high line luxury cars or in demand vehicles, depending on what type of vehicle you are considering, if it's a hard to get vehicle, your bargaining power will be reduced.

Would you rather purchase a ....?

You should be forthcoming, in a diplomatic way of course, let them know what you've found as far as pricing. This should be stated as soon as possible, or as soon as the conversation allows. By letting them know, they will at least not start so high with an original offer.

Of course it's not just the bottom line price of the car that consumers pay for. It's add ons, such as paint sealants, undercoatings, window etching, PREP Fees and other items they may approach you into buying. My personal and professional opinion is that these items are very seldom needed, if at all.

Extended warranties are another issue as well, depending on your usage of the vehicle, this may or may not be a good option for you. I'm a firm believer that they are valuable under the right circumstances, but they are not always a good idea for every circumstance.

Does any one know where I can get the best price for a used truck or jeep?

If you consider a warranty, you can always purchase before the original factory warranty expires. If you purchase when you buy the car, and it's included with financing, you'll be paying finance charges for something that you aren't using.

Financing is another source of income for dealers, if you finance thru a credit union or bank, you will most likely get a better interest rate, but if you finance outside the dealer, they may not be willing to negotiate with bottom line pricing.

Another small rule of thumb is the best time to buy, most people will tell you at the end of the month, this does have some value, but dealers will often ROLL the 1st day or 2 of sales into the previous month.

Be careful as well if you are trading in a car or truck with a lien, if they claim they will pay this off it often times ends up back in your contract, they simply add this amount to the new financing arrangements.

Know your credit score before you start shopping, a common scam is an original agreement based on your score, then they call you back and say you weren't approved based on your score and attempt to get you financed with a higher rate.

There's a saying in the industry, Sales departments sell the first car to a consumer but the service dept sells the second or more to the consumer. Meaning the quality of the service dept will keep a consumer coming back when he/she is in the market for another vehicle.

As a last note, considering this is your first visit and purchase from a dealership, I'd recommend you take a few trial runs before signing, even visit several dealerships, take a few test drives. listen to the sales pitch etc, this will make you feel more comfortable when you are ready to purchase and negotiate.

That said though, remember sales people are at work to make a paycheck as well, it's not right to take up to much of their time when you are not seriously considering purchasing from them, so although I recommend these "trial runs", I also recommend respecting their time.
