Question:
Hi, I'm trying to buy a car from a lady in Georgia, but she resides in the United Kingdom. We reside in Florida and we are trying to buy this car from her. We've only seen pictures of her car but not in person. She said she would drive to Florida to meet us and finalize the deal, but she said we would have to make a $1500 down payment to an Escrow company before she drives down. I read a little on what these companies do and I guess they are a third party that holds onto the money until the deal is finalized. The only problem is she has not given me any phone numbers to contact her and the address that she gave me for the Escrow processs is located in the United Kingdom. I did my part by providing her my address and home/cell number that she could reach me at. I'm afraid she may walk off with the money. How do I know the escrow company is legitimate and genuine? And what also makes us nervous is that if something goes wrong, we have to rely on e-mail to contact her. Thanks.

What do you think the best type of car is?
You're right to be wary, this is a common scam. Since the company claims to be located in the UK, you can check their bona fides on the UK Companies House web site. Also, ask the experts at escrow-fraud.com to look at the web site of the escrow company; they can advise whether it's a scam.Based on your description so far, it's pretty likely that this is not a legitimate sales offer. If she isn't willing to use a well-known alternative (such as escrow.com) then walk away from this "deal" before she steals your money. Best of luck!
