If rust is only surface and ok its done 130k but its a VW and its German made which means quality and reliability. Are these miles documented by a full service history and documented bills to show, if yes then ur gettin near to asking price, reason being, the VW Golf GTI is pretty saught after car, but the mk 2 was the best.
Volkswagens are very reliable if serviced properly, infact any modern car will give u reliability if serviced properly, 130k is a lot of miles but if it has FSH it helps sell the car, find out what sort of life car had. A car that has done most of 130k on motorways is less likely to have any major wear or tear probs than a car thats done same miles around town etc.
If car is clean overall and rust is only surface rust offer £1,300 and haggle up to £1500, however if the owner is a W lover etc he or she will know the true value and know it will sell for the asking price, but cars like other things for sale are given a starting price and expected to be brought down by haggling, good luck, if its a nice car and owner wont drop, dont lose it for a couple hundred pounds. Thats if its near mint condition, if its a dog walk away, if its reasonable condition start at £500 and haggle hard.

You dont have to be concerned about how many miles a car has, cuz nowadays you can do that easily especially if your in a travel-a-lot businness. You need to be concerned on how the previous owner treated it, also get the vehicle history from a website you only pay a small fee and you get so much peace of mind. But rust in the chassis is not a cool thing, if its not rusted up to the point where theres no return then take it to a body repair place, theyll hook u up with fixing itI (a guy) wanna buy a used car for under 4K. A well looked after Audi/VW engine can last up to 200,000 miles plus. My Audi 100 made it to 194,000 mi before Mr MOT said no. Rust on the floorpan means there is a leak somewhere that shouldn't be and no it's not common. £1700 is more than double what the seller should be asking. Check for smoke out of the exaust (its a GTi so its gonna have been thrashed) make sure is doesn't puff out blue smoke on starting.

The mileage isn't a huge problem, the engine will run forever, but the asking price is too much especially considering the rust problem, which will be pricey to repair and will most likely cause it to fail the MOT. you have failed to mention the most inportant thing ..the service history ..if it hasnt got one forget it ..if it has check every single service stamp ..it not unusual for these stamps to be inserted at a later date ..if it has got good service history and the rust is only surface rust ..then it could be a good buy .modern cars last well if regulary serviced ..i have a mate in france and his son has a peugeot 106 .and that little car has done over 500000 kilometres ..and it has never been touched !..and it still drives well so dont be afraid of the miles ..its only just run inI want to sell my car . which web site get the best response ?(NW6)?
the rust on newer car indicates leaks or poor accident repair.130000 on a VW not huge problem but this is a gti and normally theyve had the knackers driven off them!
keep your money and go find a better one.
